MATT MEOLA JOINS THE SOS SURFBOARDS TEAM
We are so stoked to announce that Matt Meola is now a team rider for SOS surfboards. Matt joins the team along with Albee Layer and Paige Alms. Matt has been loving his 5'10" LIFT model, tuning in his pro model that will soon be available to the public. Matt Meola is a great addition to the team, and plans to continue putting in work as a freesurfer, opting to not compete in contests, and rather do photo and videos. Stoked to have Matt Meola on the team!

SOUTH AFRICA 3
After a long 8 hour drive, we all made it up to Ballito to our condo. We met up with Erica Hosseini, another friend we hadn't seen in ages, who has been suffering for a reoccurring knee injury and has made the trip all the way here just to maintain her ranking on the QS. Fun surf the morning of this photo, shot by Sacha Specker.
But as we had been told, the storm of the year was on its way. Somehow we only had a two day holding period for this comp, and we woke Saturday to the swell of the year, looked like huge hawaii on reef beachies that couldn't handle. No one was surfing anywhere! Sunday, they ran a few heats and called the contest off the heat after mine, which I lost by less than a point. I was pretty pissed considering the wind of the century had been blowing in our heat, yet they finished one more heat and called the event off. After all the drama and trying to figure out what they would do, as most of the girls were leaving the next day, they decided to split the points and money and carry on. What a lame contest! Soooooo stoked that I had made this a surf trip, not just for a contest! I wish I could stay longer and carry on up to Mozambique with the Hodge's but it is crazy expensive to chance flights, maybe next year! Aloha!

SOUTH AFRICA 2
I have been enjoying my time here tremendously. Great company, great food, epic surf, and good times. Rosy and Sacha took me to the 4x4 quad park today, where I got to meet a giraffe named Abbey who is 4 years old, still a young one. We got to ride quads around this park, checking out more giraffe's, zebra's, and buffalo. Such a fun time... Tomorrow we head up to Ballito for the comp, stay tuned... Ha

SOUTH AFRICA
So this was my second time down in SA. I had been here once last year with Sean, but this trip I went solo. What an adventure flying all the way here alone. I flew Maui, Salt Lake City, Georgia, Johannesburg, East London. Wow that took a long time! Almost two days of flying and I arrived in East London to my two good friends Rosy and Sacha. All bags and boards had arrived safely, somehow! I was exhausted to say the least, but so happy to be welcomed by friends I hadn't seen since last winter on Maui. We drove about 45 minutes to Rosy's parents place, where I got to meet her Mom, Wendy and Dad, Steven. I was so grateful to have a warm bed and a beautiful house to stay in! Thank you guys so much for having me. I woke up around noon, with the time difference 12 hours from Hawaii, I figured I'd be a bit out of it for a few days. Luckily I woke up to some yummy food and a surf mission. We scored fun little surf, took me a while to remember how to surf in a wet suit.. But I finally got it... We came back home, relaxed and looked outside to see that the wind had switched and the point break in front of the house was firing with no one out! I LOVE SOUTH AFRICA! Thank you Sacha for the pics! check his website... http://www.thespex.com/

Introducing the "PROCKET"
Check out our new surfboard model "The PROCKET"... Like the Guppy, made for having fun in any and all conditions. This board is more performance oriented than the Guppy, made for more radical surfing. Ridden 4-5 inches shorter than your average board. The bottom shape goes from a double under your front foot to single off the tail. This board is Paige's, I did a round pin for Albee to ride in more hollow surf. Come have a chat with me about it anytime. We can customize this board for any rider and any conditions.

SOS welcomes Kai Lenny to the team
I have watched Kai Lenny windsurfing and surfing for years now, and all of a sudden he's 16! It's crazy how time flies. Kai is an all around water man, and excels at everything he tries. You can see Kai out on the water surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddling, paddle boarding, canoeing, etc. He does it all! I was so happy when Kai approached me to get some surfboards. He had been hearing how good they were from friends, and got to try his friend Dean Christener's 5'8" GUPPY that I had made him. He walked into my shaping room a few days after that wanting his own. As Kai is an all around athlete and has the sponsors to prove it, I am honored to have him riding my surfboards.
I first made Kai a 5'6 GUPPY, 5'9" LIFT shortboard, and a 6'2" step up LIFT model. He was getting ready for a trip to Mexico with Ian Gentil and crew, and wanted to take a new quiver. When he returned home I got a written report on how each board worked, from small to big, mushy to hollow, very impressive from a 16 year old. He was blown away on the performance of each board, claiming his 5'9" to be the best shortboard he had ever ridden. I am happy to welcome Kai to the team.

SOS officially welcomes Albee Layer to the team
SOS Surfboards officially welcomes 17 year old Albee Layer to the team. Albee has been riding the boards for the past few months, and has had great feedback on all the boards. As he gets ready for the ISA World Junior Championships in Ecuador, he is testing out a few new stringerless carbon rail boards, and new shortboards for the beach break conditions they are expecting. We are proud to have Albee exclusively riding SOS Surfboards! Check out Albee's new photo on surfline, riding his 6'2" Carbon rail LIFT model... Pic number 2 on:

Secret Weapon
I've been keeping this technology a secret for a few years, not wanting to share the secrets. I realized that you would have to cut one of these boards into many pieces to figure it out, and even then it wouldn't be the same. Having people try my own personal flex tow board, getting nothing but 100% positive feedback on my first 5'4 towboard for as big as it gets Jaws, I knew that I had to share this. This is as close as you can get to snowboarding on a wave, you feel no chop coming up the face as the board flexes to the contour of the wave. Check Yuri's new 5'10" bamboo carbon flex towboard. I can't wait to see Yuri on this board when its 30 foot Peahi ripping!

RE-Introducing the GUPPY
This is the new and improved GUPPY, made for everyday fun. Feedback from Albee and Paige has been amazing. "A shitty day of surfing is now fun!" This is Albee's 5'8" and Paige's 5'7". These boards are usually ridden 4-5 inches shorter than your normal shortboard and 3/4 to an inch wider. The extreme double concave and low rocker, makes this board fast and extremely loose. I have been making these fun fishes for quite a while, and just now people are wanting to go back in time and ride short and wide boards. I'm stoked! It will reinvent your surfing and open your mind. Come by the shop and order yours today.
